Cryo-EM access charges


Access

Access to the facility requires compulsory training in using of the equipment. After successful training users will be registered and can book the facility according to current booking rules. For virtual users, only one user will be registered who has full responsiblity for the slot and the booking.


Booking Rules

Electron Microscope

Experienced, registered users can book the facility at any time, none-registered users can access the facility together with an experienced, registered users. Slots are daily slots. A user can book in advance: 1 slot at prime time (Mo-Fr) and 2 slots off-peak (Sa-Su). Slots, will be charged, if not canceled 48 hours in advance.

Bookings for the cryo-EM (Mausi) can be made using the online booking system. Please contact Steve Mitchel for booking the Biotwin microscope (tel. 0131 651 3371).

Workstations

There are three workstations in the COIL facility. You can reserve up to 2 days in advance using the booking system.

Charges

School of Biological Sciences, SULSA community, Wellcome Trust Centre

Costs for consumables and small tools are not covered by the access charges (e.g. grids, forceps, mica, filter paper, small dewars, gloves...).

Other Academics

Compulsory Training Session
850 Pounds/day can be part of data collection
unsupported access to the microscope 850 Pounds/day (booking rules apply)
5000 Pounds per 10 sessions within 6 months (virtual user, payable in advance, booking rules apply)
15000 per year (virtual user, payable in advance, booking rules apply)
Staff support
60 Pounds/ hour (curently there is no support  available)
Access to Image processing:
1000 Pounds per year per user (covers license fees if applicable, limited renewal/expansion of hardware, limited diskspace 250 Gb/user  (booking rules apply))
Use of Vitrobot unsuported
50 Pounds ; the use of the vitrbot is included in the 15000 pounds per year for virtual users
1 Slot in Storage Dewar
100 Pounds/year (users are responsible for N2 top-up)

Non-academics (commercial rates)

Compulsory Training Session
225 Pounds/hour, min 2 hours, including microscope
unsupported access to the microscope 1500 Pounds/day (booking rules apply)
Staff support
100 Pounds/hour
Access to Image processing:
